CANVAS STRETCHING SERVICE

We can have your canvas professionally mounted on deep edge wooden stretcher bars for an additional fee, your canvas will be wrapped around a 1.5 inch deep stretcher frame and stapled on the reverse, Stretched canvas prints can be either gallery wrapped, where the image wraps around the edge of the stretcher or image flush, where the edge of the stretched canvas shows bare white canvas.

our stretcher bars have a special shape to hold the canvas away from the bar avoiding any unsightly lines, the corners are folded rather than cutting them so there is no fraying and your canvas looks much smarter. Retensioning wedges are supplied to provide a method for restretching the canvas should it become slack over time in changing climates.

There are a vast range of printing media's available for wide format printing, we stock canvas, photo and indoor banner media but we have good links with several suppliers and can source media accommodating your individual budget and quality requirements with non branded and top of the range branded media's available, alternative media options which we can source include watercolour paper, adhesive synthetic paper, transparent adhesive film, poster board to name but a few, let us know what you want to achieve and we will try to make it happen for you, we are working with a number of artists and photographers and they are always impressed at our efforts to help them realise their ideas into print, we are fellow creative people at Metro-Arts so we understand creative ideas.

  A 20 mil 100% cotton artist canvas with all of the natural imperfections and high texture preferred by many producers of fine art canvas reproductions. It is highly-textured, pH neutral, artist stretch canvas designed for long term, fade resistant fine art or photo reproductions.   A good heavy weight canvas for producing an expensive looking print at a budget price, this canvas is a quite rigid canvas making it more difficult to stretch particularly with larger sizes, we do not offer a stretching service for this type of canvas, it is better suited to mounting on board or framing behind glass.

  m2 thickness 0.32mm, a very good option for quality printing at a budget price, a nice smooth surface and very supple canvas with ease of stretch ability - a very popular choice.

PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTING

With the high resolution output of our wide format printer we are able to offer superb large format photographic prints, we are currently printing on Epson premium Semigloss photo paper, A favorite with photographers and graphic artists, EPSON Premium Semigloss Photo Paper is a resin-coated (RC) base. This RC barrier allows the paper to maintain vivid, lifelike colours that rival traditional prints. Its non-cockling base makes it ideal for photographs, promotional pieces, layouts, portfolio images, proofs, displays and posters. It creates high-quality prints by offering maximum ink coverage with brilliant colour inks.

FILE REQUIREMENTS If you require a print from an artwork produced by hand you will need to consider the best way to capture your artwork into a digital format. Any flat artwork can be scanned, however if your artwork is to large to be scanned you will need to seek assistance from a professional photographer, they will have the equipment and lighting required to accurately capture your artwork into a high resolution file suitable for printing. We are able to offer a photography service for this purpose, please contact us with your specific requirements and we can provide you with a quotation for this service. When scanning you will need to understand the resolution of the scanned image, the higher the resolution the more information is captured, the resolution is measured by ppi (pixels per inch) or also referred to as dpi (dots per inch).

When scanning if you follow a basic rule you should produce a digital image, which is suitable for wide format printing, if you are scanning an image and want to produce a print the same size then scan at 300dpi (so if you have an A4 original artwork, scan it and print onto an A4 sheet this equals 300dpi), if you want the print to be double the size you scan at 600dpi and so on so you double the scanning resolution in relation to the size of the print (so if you have an A4 original artwork, you scan at 600dpi, you can produce an A3 print), please send the digital image to us saved as its final print size and at the relevant resolution.

The important thing to consider is that regardless of the quality of the printer and media used, if you don’t capture enough information in the digital image, the print out will always appear pixelated.

If you are producing an artwork in a digital format using programs such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator you will need to ensure your file size is appropriate for the largest size print you will require, in Photoshop you would select the appropriate width and height and choose the resolution to be 300dpi, Adobe illustrator can allow you to produce vector graphics which are scaleable to any output size.

It is best to work in RGB colour mode, scanners and cameras automatically work in this colour space, when using an image manipulation program ensure this working colour space is selected.

For the file type we recommend Tiff or Raw file types, we can also work with other file types such as Jpeg but please do consider the Jpeg’s compress the images losing important information which may affect image quality in detailed images.

If you are not sure that your digital file is suitable for printing you can send it to us, either by e-mail or on CD Rom our and we will happily assess the image for suitability to print at your chosen print size free of charge.

At this stage we would recommend that if you are critical about your print you order a proof print, this is available for £5.00 per proof print, this way you can see the output of your image on to the chosen media and make any adjustments such as contrast, colour balance accordingly, reproofing as required, it is very important to realise that what you see on your monitor is almost always not reflective of what you will see on an actual print out, this is partially due to your monitor and computer settings and also the colour gamut, digitizing an image, converting a digitized image to a different colour space, or outputting it to a given medium using a certain output device generally alters its gamut, in the sense that some of the colours in the original are lost in the process, even the colour temperature of the light you are viewing the print in or even how much caffiene and sleep you have had can affect how the appearance of the colours of your print are to you, please take this into consideration, to avoid any disappointment it is best to go for a proof print, if at all possible swatches sent with the print are very helpful to us, even if they are simply swatches of colour from a magazine.

SHIPPING

Rolled prints will be sent in a cardboard tube. Stretched canvas prints will be sent well packaged in a cardboard box.
